Cela est la vie

Kericho and Nakuru were the perfect gateways for the weekend. Thanks for Friends and Colleagues who made it worthwhile except for the loss

Saturday 5th November

This was a day of disappointments after the morning visit to the tea factories was cancelled at last minute due to logistical hitches. I totally blame our dear friend who had given us an assurance that all was well co-ordinated the previous day. A whole morning wasted!
The rest of the morning was spent at the Hydro generating plant, sewage treatment plant and finally the water treatment plant for Tenwek.
Later on in the evening I went for a game of Tennis to unwind after a rather disappointing day.
I returned at about 2000hours and went to the Intensive Care unit (ICU) of the hospital to visit a colleague who had been in that ward since the previous evening.

After a brief chat with colleagues outside the ward, we walked in and watched Irene in bed and she couldn’t recognize anybody. I watched helplessly as I saw the monitors ( ventilators,,, etc reading units that I couldn’t make sense of).

I tried to figure out what could have gone wrong gauging from briefly looking at the CT scan done the previous day and opinions overheard from other physicians who suspected Meningitis but this wasn’t the case. Someone offered a prayer at her bedside and we left. I was very disturbed within me as I reflected on our last day at work together :Friday 4th November. She asked us to pray for her during the morning devotions and one of our colleagues offered to pray for her healing.
As I walked out of the ward, I was briefly distracted by a long lost friend Edward who happened to be near the peadiatrics ward. He told me he had come to see his brother who was being discharged after recovering. We exchanged a few pleasantries after which I came home and rested.
Early Sunday morning, we had a morning drive through Kericho and Nakuru for a get together for a colleague. On arrival at 1100hours, he broke the news that Irene passed on at 5 a.m. that day.
I was grieved and felt the pain of her loss. Death is such a bad reaper and has robbed us of a great mother, friend and colleague. Rest in peace ABULE. You inspired us all in your genuine walk with God. Moments shared and times spent together will forever remain etched in my mind.It is hard to believe but that’s life.

Sin of Presumption

There is a legend of a woman who had a faithful dog.
This dog was so faithful that the woman could leave her baby with it and go out to attend other matters.
She always returned to find the child soundly asleep with the dog faithfully watching over him.

One day something tragic happened.
The woman as usual, left the baby in the "hands" of this faithful dog and went out shopping.
When she returned, she discovered rather a nasty scene.
There was a total mess.
The baby's cot was dismantled and his nappies and clothes torn to shreds with bloodstains all over the bedroom where she had left the child and the dog.
Shocked, the woman wailed as she began looking for the baby.
Presently, she saw the faithful dog emerging from the under the bed.
It was covered with blood and licking its mouth as it had just finished a delicious meal.
The woman went berserk and assumed that the dog had devoured her baby.
Without much thought she clubbed the dog to death.
But as she continued searching for the "remains" of her child, she beheld another scene.
Close to the bed was the baby who, although lying on bare floor, was safe.
And under the bed the carcass of a jackal torn to pieces in what must have been a fierce battle between it and the dog which was now dead.
Then the reality hit the woman who now began to understand what took place in her absence.
The dog fought to protect the baby from the ravenous jackal.
It was too late for her now to make amends because in her impatience and anger, she had killed the faithful dog.
A dog deserving praise and adoration that fought to save the life of her dear beloved child received death in return.
How often have we misjudged people and torn them to shreds with harsh words and even with physical assault before we have had time to evaluate the situation?
Presuming things are one way without taking the trouble to find out exactly what the situation really is.
A little patience can drastically reduce major lifelong errors.

TENWEK EXPERIENCE - KIP

It was a bright Monday morning on 27th December 2010 when I first reported to my new work station at Tenwek Hospital in Bomet.

The morning was spent undergoing full medical check up while the rest of the afternoon was taken up by orientation on various computer systems running within the wide hospital area.
What were my expectations when I came in? A place to call home and make a contribution of my skills only this time round in a heathcare industry or sector.

Many Days have since passed on and in a few days I will be a month old here.
Life’s interesting ; the people are very social and welcoming; this helped a great deal in settling down.
The environment is cool with occasional rains even in January!

On the IT systems side, its very complex and Mission critical!

THINKING

For the Past few weeks I have been taking time to think and reflect about life;the Past, present and future. In all this, I have come to learn the importance of taking time to Think through something, Critique It on Paper and then execute it. You will be amazed at how FAST the Speed of execution is.
This helps save a lot of time. Get Started and TAKE TIME TO THINK!!
Well you may say you have no time but we CREATE TIME for whats most important in our lives. What comes top in our Priorities, we always have time for.
There are many benefits associated with taking time to think which I will be highlighting in due course.
